Hypnosis Questions

Q: What is hypnosis?

A: Your key to success. The means by which you can achieve your desires, attain any state of being, and fulfill your dreams. The doorway through which you’ll find greater wholeness, health, and happiness. The tool that will help you build your ideal life.

Q: No, really, what is hypnosis?

A: Hypnosis is very much a blanket term; in fact hypnosis is only defined by context and intent. Hypnosis is a state of mind that we access many times each day, for example when we watch a movie, read a captivating book, or drive along a route that we know well.  As opposed to being ‘zoned-out’, it’s like being ‘zoned-in’. Contrary to popular misconception, when you’re in hypnosis you stay fully present and aware of everything that’s said and experienced, you’re in full control of yourself, and you’re completely awake.  Hypnosis is a trance state (depending on your definition of the word trance) in which the subconscious mind is ready to make positive changes and rewrite its past programming.  Hypnosis is how we tap into your inner resource and work with the immense potential that’s there to achieve what you want to accomplish. (It’s interesting to note that the man who coined the term hypnosis, James Braid, later wanted to take the word back, since hypnosis (hypno etymologically means sleep) is not at all sleep. He wanted to replace hypnosis with the word mono-idea-ism, which better represents the state of one-pointed focus that is hypnosis. )

Q: How does hypnosis work?

A: In hypnosis we harness the immense power of our minds and channel it to a specific aim. This enables us to resolve any conflict or achieve any goal with tremendous ease, because we are using the very force that is responsible for all solutions, all inspired ideas, and all accomplishments.  By being in hypnosis you remove the clogged filters of the judgemental and limiting part of your mind, and thus allow yourself to effectuate positive change in a deep level inside of you. Changes on this level resonate throughout your whole being so that you see immediate improvement in every aspect of your life.

Q: Is hypnosis a form of mind-control?

A: Not at all! In fact, it’s a common saying in the field of hypnotherapy that “All hypnosis is self-hypnosis.”  This is because the hypnotist will only create the road to hypnosis, and the client has to walk it. Hypnosis is sometimes likened to a dance where the hypnotist plays the role of the lead and the other follows. Hypnosis cannot make you do things that you don’t want to do. While in hypnosis you fully retain your moral values and you still decide for yourself whether to accept suggestions.

Q: What does trance or hypnosis feel like?

A: Hypnosis is often likened to daydreaming. Many people simply feel relaxed and laid back.  The more acquainted you are with hypnosis, the more you can feel it’s nuances. Since hypnosis is a framework that can contain a wide variety of experiences, hypnosis can feel like many different things.  If we aren’t working with any specific feelings for the session’s work, I’ll usually give people a pleasant sentiment that will last even after the session is finished. Some people will feel rapture whereas others will feel deep peace and others yet will feel a simple calmness.

Q: Can anybody be hypnotized?

A: Anybody with at least minimal intelligence and a desire to go into hypnosis can be hypnotized. All it takes is a willingness to follow instructions.  The only people who can’t be hypnotized are those who resist or fear it. Besides, you hypnotize yourself many times every day, as mentioned in a previous question.

Q: Can I do a Keycraft session without being hypnotized?

A: I’d like to make it clear that what we do in a session is often more de-hypnotizing you than anything else. You’ve conditioned yourself to behave in certain ways and you’ve adopted beliefs that define your experience. You’ve hypnotized yourself into feeling how you feel and living how you live.  Besides, you are in a trance right now, know it or not. This being said, there are many sessions that we can do without using hypnosis, just ask me which. We can do some great therapy work without utilizing hypnosis. And many of the classes and workshops don’t involve hypnosis.

Q: You talk a lot about the mind, but what about the rest of me?

A: Though hypnosis has a lot to do with the inner mind (in the widest sense of the term), in a Keycraft session we never shirk the importance of addressing the felt/emotional aspects of a situation. Tremendous progress can be done by feeling into ourselves, and so this can be an integral part of the therapy.

Q: What if my problem is based on an issue other than the one I’m there for?

A: Sometimes in a session we’ll come across what are called secondary gains. This, for example, could mean that one’s insomnia is caused by an emotional dilemma rather than a physical one, or that one’s allergies are based on an emotional trauma, etc.  If we find this to be case, and we hadn’t intended to work on these issues initially, then I will bring you out of hypnosis and ask you whether you want to address these issues. If so, then the session will be dedicated to healing that situation and the initial session (allergy, insomnia, etc) would be postponed to a later date. (Although often when the underlying emotion or trauma is dealt with, the symptom or present problem usually disappears automatically.)

Keycraft Questions

Q: How does a session unfold?

A: At your arrival for your first session, we’ll sit down and I’ll explain the process and mechanics of what we’ll be doing, as well as answer any questions you may have.  Then we’ll usually do a brief interview so that I can better know your situation and determine the best way to help you. After this (depending on what session you’ve come for) we’ll go on with the hypnosis session which is akin to a guided meditation, lasting anywhere from fifteen to ninety minutes.

Q: Do you do house calls?

A: I only do house calls for clients that I have seen at least once previously.  While working at your home, there must be another adult in the house at all times. The rate for house calls is an additional $50. I can also travel to your city if you don’t live in Montreal, contact me for additional information.

Q: Can we do a session over the phone/internet?

A: Yes, absolutely. You can experience this from the comfort of your own home.  Telephone or Skype sessions are the same price as office sessions, and are payable through Paypal.  Simply contact me with your Skype i.d. or your phone number and we’ll arrange a time for the session.

Q: Do you offer a discount for group sessions?

A: Yes, I do.  Many of the sessions can be done in a group, and if you gather the people, then each person pays $40 less than the listed price. (A group consists of at least 4 people.)

Q: I have a question that isn’t listed here.
